Washington:

U.S. lawmakers will demand documents from Donald Trump's eldest son and a long-time business associate, as part of a wide-ranging investigation into allegations of abuse of power by the president, a ruling Democrat said on Sunday.

The chairman of the American judicial commission, Jerry Nadler, told the political show" This Week"that Donald Trump Jr. and Allen Weisselberg, the only directors of the Trump Organization, were among the 60 individuals and entities investigated.

The New York congressman said the demands would be released on Monday "to open investigations to present the case to the American people about the Republican president's obstruction of justice, corruption and abuse of power".

Special lawyer Robert Mueller opened an investigation into Trump's campaign because of his alleged collusion with Russia to influence the 2016 election and the possible obstruction of that investigation.

Many observers believe, however, that his greatest legal exposure will come from various federal and national surveys of his finances and the operation of his charitable foundation and business.

Trump came out arguing, tweeting, that two years of" presidential harassment " since taking office had only proven lawlessness in a democracy.

"I am an innocent man persecuted by very bad, corrupt and corrupt people in a witch hunt that is illegal and should never have been allowed to begin," he tweeted.

Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen said Wednesday in Capitol Hill that the authorities in New York were investigating crimes that allegedly involved the president, beyond those that were made public.

Nadler said it was "very clear" that Trump had obstructed justice, repeatedly calling the Mueller probe a "witch hunt" and trying to stop an investigation of his first National Security Advisor, Mike Flynn, who later admitted to lying to the FBI about Russia. Contact.

Trump unleashed a political storm by sacking FBI chief James Comey in May 2017 - and then admitting to NBC that he had made the decision after being frustrated by Russia's investigation.

"Appropriate investigations"

Nadler, like Nancy Pelosi, president of Democratic House, hesitated to call for the removal of the president, and told ABC that such action would be "still too long".

Trump was implicated by Cohen in many crimes. The former presidential adviser testified before the chamber's Oversight Committee on Wednesday, accusing his former boss of being" racist"," crook "and"cheater".

Cohen, who was convicted of lying to Congress, said that Trump knew in advance that WikiLeaks would publish documents detrimental to his electoral rival Hillary Clinton, which turned out to be e-mails stolen by Russian spies.

He added that he thought Trump was informed in advance of a meeting between campaign leaders and a Russian lawyer on June 9, 2016, extolling Clinton's merits.

Cohen pled guilty last year for violating the campaign finance act when he paid adult movie star Stormy Daniels to remain silent before the 2016 election about a deal Cohen had with Trump.

Cohen testified that Trump ordered the secret payment. He also alleged that the Trump Organization had regularly and illegally inflated the value of its assets to obtain bank loans, and had accused his former boss of abusing charitable funds.

"What we learned in Cohen's testimony is that he directly implicated the president in various crimes, both by seeking the post of President and at the White House, "Nadler said in"this Week."
