Received A Beautiful Letter From Kim Jong One, Says Donald Trump

Donald Trump also did not rule out another meeting with Kim. Trump plans to travel to Japan and South Korea later this month.

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday he received a very warm letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, calling the correspondence "beautiful."

Speaking to White House reporters, Trump added, "I think something is going to happen that will be very positive," but gave no details.

Washington is seeking to restart negotiations with Pyongyang, aimed at getting North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons program. Trump and Kim met for the last time earlier this year in Hanoi, but failed to reach a denuclearization agreement.

Trump spoke a day after the Wall Street Journal reported that Kim's half-brother, Kim Jong Nam, was a source for the CIA. Kim Jong Nam was killed at Kuala Lumpur Airport in Malaysia in 2017.

"I received a beautiful letter from Kim Jong Un ... I appreciated the letter, I saw information about the CIA about his brother or half-brother, and I'll tell him that it will not happen. not under mine ... I would not let that happen. "A very warm letter, very beautiful," says Trump. "I think North Korea has tremendous potential."

He did not rule out another meeting with Kim. Trump plans to travel to Japan and South Korea later this month.

Trump said Kim has so far kept his promise not to test long-range ballistic missiles or conduct underground nuclear tests.

In May, North Korea carried out a "strike exercise" for multiple launchers, using tactical guided weapons as part of a military exercise overseen by Kim.
