Report : To See Donald Trump "In Prison", Nancy Pelosi Declares To Democrats

Nancy Pelosi prefers to see Donald Trump lose the 2020 election and then face prosecution for his alleged crimes, sources told the US news agency.

Donald Trump should be sent to "jail," US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Democratic colleagues at closed meeting on whether to initiate proceedings dismissal against the president, Politico reported Thursday.

Pelosi, Trump's political nemesis in Congress, said she is not ready to proceed with what would be a highly conflictual impeachment action, and that she would prefer to see the president defeated at the ballot box next year.

But at a meeting late Tuesday with the chairpersons of House committees, she ran into Judge President Jerry Nadler to find out whether to initiate a dismissal investigation, using language which reinforced the rhetoric surrounding the great Democrats and Trump.

"I do not want to see him destitute, I want to see him in jail," Pelosi said, according to Politico who cited multiple democratic sources familiar with the meeting.

Pelosi prefers to see Trump lose the 2020 elections and then face prosecution for his alleged crimes, sources told the US media outlet.

Many Democrats believe that Trump has broken the law by allegedly seeking to obstruct investigations of Russia's interference in the 2016 US elections.

He is also accused of bribing two women who claimed to have had dealings with Trump, and of violating constitutional bans on presidents receiving financial benefits from foreign governments.

But Pelosi argued that launching an impeachment investigation should only be done if there is sufficient public support and meaningful bipartisan support.

Polls show that a majority of Americans are currently opposing the impeachment and, so far, only one Republican of the chamber has expressed support for the removal of the President.

"Out of touch"

Asked about Pelosi's "prison" comment, Mercedes Schlapp, director of strategic communications for the White House, offered a sharp response.

"How shocking.The Democrats are Radical and Disconnected," and refuse to work with the President on issues like the current crisis along the US border with Mexico, Schlapp told Fox News.

"They are more focused on the attack of this president, undermining this president, than on the resolution of (countries) major problems."

Trump also had mild criticism of the first and only female Speaker of the House.

"I call her nervous Nancy," Trump told Fox. "Nancy Pelosi is a disaster .... And let her do what she wants, you know what, I think they have big problems."

Pelosi has hardened his language about the President in recent weeks. She said Trump "is engaged in hiding" and that his staff and his family should organize an "intervention" with the president.

She also sought to project unity within her Democratic Party on the way forward with regard to impeachment.

"Do not get me wrong, we know exactly what path we're talking about," she told reporters Wednesday. "We know exactly what steps we need to take."

With Trump's administration blocking various Democrat-led investigations, several party lawmakers have publicly called for impeachment.

Many of them cite Special Advocate Robert Mueller's report as a confirmation of Trump's fault.

The report found no clear evidence to accuse members of the Trump campaign of conspiracy with Russia, nor did it exculpate the president for obstruction of justice.

Mueller instead described 10 cases of potential obstruction he discovered during the probe.
A spokeswoman for Pelosi, Ashley Etienne, said Pelosi and the presidents had a "productive meeting" on the status of Mueller's report.
