The American operation "Broken Heart" leads to the arrest of 1,700 child sex offenders

The United States Department of Justice said Tuesday that it has arrested nearly 1,700 suspected sex offenders online as part of a two-month operation across the country.

The "broken heart" operation of April and May targeted those who manufacture and distribute child pornography, as well as those who receive and download it.

It has also targeted people involved in the trafficking of children for sexual purposes and pedophiles who are traveling in the country and abroad to sexually assault children, the Department of Justice said.

The operation identified 308 child molesters and 357 child victims of abuse in the production of pornographic material.

"The sexual abuse of children is disgusting, and it is victimizing the most innocent and vulnerable of all," Attorney General Bill Barr said in a statement.
