Donald Trump says immigration raids are coming " pretty soon"

President Donald Trump said Friday that mass deportations raids would begin "fairly soon", as American migrant rights activists promised that their communities would be" ready " when immigration agents arrived.

Trump, who made immigration a tough line, a key issue for his presidency and his candidacy for re-election in 2020, postponed the operation last month after the publication of the date, but announced Monday that the operation would take place after July 4.

"They will soon begin, but I do not call them raids, we are sending back people, all those people who have illegally entered over the years," he told The Press on Friday at the White House.

U.S. immigration and customs authorities (ICE) announced last month that their operations would target newly arrived undocumented migrants, with the aim of discouraging the massive influx of Central American families to the southwest border.

ICE stated in a statement that it focused on arrests of persons with criminal records, but that any immigrant found in violation of U.S. law should be arrested.

Government documents released this week by migrant rights groups have shown that some of CIE's past operations have led to the discovery of "collateral" arrests of undocumented migrant workers as well as apprehensions of targeted individuals.

Migrant rights groups have stated that this widespread threat is detrimental to communities and the American economy, as it forces adults to be unemployed and children to be out of school for fear of separation and separation.

"We need to be ready, not just when Trump announces it, because there are arrests every day," said Elsa Lopez, organizer of Somos Un Pueblo Unido, a neo-Mexican group that raises awareness of migrants ' civil rights and creates telephone networks to send alerts if ICE enters their neighbourhood.

Threatened raids occurred after apprehensions of migrants on the southwest border reached their highest level in 13 years in May, before settling down in June as Mexico tightened immigration controls.

An increasing number of migrants are coming from outside Central America, including from India, Cuba and African countries. The Border Patrol sector of Del Rio, Texas, announced Friday the arrest of more than 1,000 Haitians since June 10.

Democratic lawmakers today visited a Border Patrol station in El Paso, Texas, and said migrants were being held in "horrific" conditions, with women being asked to drink water in toilets.

To" dispel "what he called" misinformation, " Border Patrol Chief Officer Roy Villareal released a video showing fresh water available in a cooler and a faucet in a cell at a migrant processing centre in the Tucson area of Arizona.
