Report : A British envoy to the United States says the Trump administration is "dysfunctional"

London:

The British ambassador to the United States described President Donald Trump and his administration as "inept" and "particularly dysfunctional", according to leaked diplomatic memos published by The Mail on Sunday.

Ambassador Kim Darroch is said to have said that Trump's presidency could "collapse" and "end in disgrace", hiding secret cables and briefing notes sent back to Britain and examined by the newspaper.

"We do not really think that this administration will become significantly more normal, less dysfunctional, less unpredictable, less divided by factions, less clumsy and inept diplomat," Darroch would have written in a dispatch.

According to the newspaper, Darroch's most damning comments described Trump, received by Queen Elizabeth II during her state visit to Britain last month, as "insecure" and "incompetent."

A memo sent following the controversial visit stated that the president and his team had been "dazzled" by the visit but warned that Britain might not remain "the flavor of the month" because "it is still the Land of America".

He would have written that" the vicious infighting and chaos "at the White House - widely reported in the United States but labeled as" false news "by Trump, were"mostly true."

Darroch is one of the most experienced British diplomats. His assignment in Washington DC began in January 2016, before Trump's victory as president.

The Mail on Sunday stated that the memos, probably revealed by someone from the British civil service, covered a period starting in 2017.

In one of the latest news reports on June 22, Darroch criticized Trump's harsh foreign policy towards Iran, which has raised fears of a military conflict in world capitals as "incoherent" and "chaotic."

He allegedly claimed that he had put an end to retaliatory missile fire against the Iranian regime after an American drone was shot down because it risked killing 150 Iranians,"does not get up".

"It is more likely that he was never fully involved and that he is concerned about how this apparent reversal of his 2016 campaign promises would look like 2020," Darroch would have said, referring to the upcoming presidential election.

The British Foreign Office did not challenge the veracity of the memos.

"The British public expects our ambassadors to provide ministers with an honest and uncompromising assessment of their country's policy," said a spokesperson.

"Their views are not necessarily the views of ministers or the government," she added, adding that "we pay them to be honest."
