Ottawa:

One Canadian thanked the legendary American rock band Metallica for saving his life after escaping a wild cougar with their 1991 song "Don't Tread On Me," the media reported.

Last month, Vancouver Island resident Dee Gallant and her eight-year-old husband husky retriever travelled to a local forest trail just outside Duncan, B. C., for their regular evening walk, Global News Canada reported on Friday.

Gallant told Global News Canada that she and her companion were faced with a threatening cougar standing 50 feet in front of them, maintaining a strong look.

In an attempt to intimidate her, Gallant waved his arms and shouted at the animal as it slowly moved towards her and Murphy.

Fortunately, Gallant had her phone at hand and, in the heat of the moment, she pulled out her great music library and pulled out the classic title to scare her.

About the song, Gallant said, "I thought it was perfect because it gave him the message I wanted to send and it was a really intimidating song.

"I put it on right away and held it high in the air ... As soon as he heard the first note, he jumped. He was just gone."

Gallant kept the song on a loop for the rest of his hike, making sure to stay in the middle of the road and keeping Murphy nearby.
