Cowardly Russians try to drown civilians by FLOODING Zelensky’s hometown with despicable revenge strikes on dam
Russian forces were said to have struck a dam in one of Ukraine's largest cities, forcing residents to leave their flooded homes.
Dramatic video from the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, home to nearly 650,000 people, shows swollen rivers and flooded streets.
Ukraine's military said Putin's forces fired eight Kh-101 killer cruise missiles at the city during the night, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukrainian lawmaker Inna Sovson tweeted: "The water pumping station was destroyed. The river broke through the dam and sank its banks.
"Apartment buildings a few meters from the river."
The strikes caused "large-scale flooding" in parts of the city after the river level rose by about 2.5 metres.
The Vice President of Ukraine, Kirilo Tymoshenko, wrote on the Telegram messaging application: “Today, Kryvyi Rih, according to preliminary data, was hit by eight Russian cruise missiles.
"It's a terrorist attack on our people, on a particular city. The missiles targeted buildings that are very important to the people,
" He went.
President Zelensky, speaking after the attack on the Karachunivske Reservoir in his city, called Russia a "terrorist state".
In his late-night video message on Wednesday, he addressed the Russian people as he wrote: "You weak people are fighting civilians. The bastards who have escaped from the battlefield,
They're trying to cause damage from afar."
"Everything is being done to remove the consequences of another despicable Russian act," he said.
President Zelensky was involved in a car accident just hours after his speech.
The Ukrainian president was traveling through Kyiv when another vehicle hit the car he was traveling in.
His press secretary, Sergei Nikiforov, said that the heroic leader was not seriously injured in the attack.
Water from the overflowing reservoir is now making its way downstream towards Kherson, where Ukrainian forces have erected pontoon bridges as part of their attempt to retake the city.
The Institute for the Study of War reported: "It is possible that Russian forces targeted the Karachon Dam to destroy Ukrainian pontoon bridges downstream."
It added that Wednesday's attack comes "in light of recent reports that Ukrainian forces are trying to expand their bridge over the Inholets River near Davidev Bred as part of the ongoing Kherson counter-offensive."
