Two dead including police officer killed in ‘ambush’ and three injured after gunman goes on rampage in Ontario
Two people, including a police officer, were killed after a gunman opened fire at two locations in Ontario.
The suspect also injured three people before the police tracked down and killed him.
Authorities have issued an emergency phone alert saying they are investigating an active shooter following shootings in Mississauga and Milton, Canada.
Toronto Police Chief James Ramir said Officer Andrew Hong, 48, was shot at point-blank range during his lunch break.
He was involved in joint training with Peel and York Regional Police.
The father who was a 22-year-old veteran survived his wife and two children.
"During his lunch break, he was hit by an unprovoked bullet, I would say in an ambush attack," said Peel District Police Chief Nishan Dorayaba.
Another person was seriously injured in the same accident and is currently being treated.
Deriaba said the armed suspect then fled the scene in a black Jeep Cherokee.
Shortly thereafter in Milton,
The police received information about a shooting that killed one person and injured two others.
He said the suspect then fled the scene and died after a police interaction at a cemetery in Hamilton, Ontario.
The police did not identify the deceased suspect.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford tweeted: "Like all Ontarians, I am horrified by today's senseless violence, including the murder of a police officer in Toronto.
“I am very grateful to law enforcement for ending this situation.
I hope justice for the dead and injured will be swift."
